The Klein Institute for Undergraduate Engineering Life (KIUEL) was established to provide Viterbi undergraduates a variety of personal and professional activities that will enhance undergraduate engineering student life experiences outside the classroom. The three building blocks of KIUEL focus on leadership, cross-disciplinary activities and service learning & globalization. The mission of KIUEL is to support and enhance already existing student development programs in the school, as well as to create and implement new initiatives that contribute to the holistic experience of the Viterbi undergraduates.

Upcoming KIUEL Events - Fall 2008

Go Global
Go Global will be held on October 21, 2008 from 12pm-2pm in the RTH Lobby.  Go Global is a great way to learn about the various offices at USC and Viterbi that provide different opportunities and resources for Viterbi undergraduates to go abroad.  There will be representatives from the USC Overseas Office, USC Global Fellows Internship Program, USC Volunteer Center, Engineers without Borders, Viterbi Overseas & Exchange Programs and more!  No RSVP necessary, just stop by on October 21st!

The Klein Institute for Undergraduate Engineering Life (KIUEL) has been made possible by a generous gift from USC Viterbi alumnus, Ken Klein.  Klein is chairman of the board, president, and chief executive officer at Wind River, a global leader in device software optimization.  Wind River technology is currently deployed in more than 300 million devices worldwide.  Before joining Wind River, Klein served as chief operating officer and a board member of Mercury Interactive for 12 years.  His team built Mercury into a software powerhouse with revenue approaching half a billion dollars.  Klein earned a dual Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical and electrical engineering in 1982 and he hopes KIUEL will serve as an anchor for undergraduate students.
KIUEL Announcement Spring 2006

"I wish I had an institute like this to turn to when I was an undergraduate.  I know how tough the engineering curriculum can be and what a little help can do."
-Ken Klein, BMEE '82
